Who can apply for a maid?
Singaporeans, Permanent Residents, and foreigners with valid employment or work passes can apply to hire a Migrant Domestic Worker (MDW), provided they have a legitimate need for assistance at home. Approval is subject to the Ministry of Manpower (MOM)’s assessment. Expatriate employers must also confirm that their immediate family members reside with them during the application process.
What is the current maid levy in Singapore?
Employers hiring a Migrant Domestic Worker (MDW) in Singapore must pay a monthly levy of either S$300 (standard rate) or S$60 (concessionary rate). The levy starts accruing from the fifth day after the helper arrives in Singapore, including the day she arrives. Payment must be made through a GIRO arrangement—failure to maintain an active GIRO account may result in the cancellation of the helper’s Work Permit. Employers can check and manage their levy payments via the Ministry of Manpower’s (MOM) online Foreign Worker Levy portal using their SingPass credentials.
Who qualifies for a maid levy concession in Singapore?
Households in Singapore may qualify for a levy concession for up to two Migrant Domestic Workers (MDWs) if they meet specific criteria set by the Ministry of Manpower (MOM). Generally, eligibility includes families with a Singaporean child or grandchild under the age of 16, or an elderly Singaporean (such as a parent, grandparent, or in-law) aged 67 and above living in the same residence. Additionally, families caring for a person with a disability may also apply for the concession. All applications are subject to MOM approval.
